Team Coordinator
Community Building Lead
Riya Mehta
Riya is a third-year undergraduate studying public health and creative writing. She joined PIHE because she’s passionate about using the power of accessible education to fight for health equity. One of her favorite memories in PIHE was hosting the Night of Public Health last semester. Outside of PIHE, Riya is interested in the epidemiology of infectious disease, its impact on the gut microbiome, and vaccine research as well. She also likes to spend time outdoors in nature!
Education Lead
Beth Wade
Beth is a sophomore studying Molecular and Cell Biology. She joined PIHE during her freshman fall to enrich her understanding of public health. Upon joining, Beth has become more involved with promoting the Paul Rarmer Resolution to incentivize more people globally to support accessible health care!
Advocacy Lead
Karina Chen
Karina is a sophomore majoring in nutritional science on a pre-med track. She’s interested in addressing social inequalities in education and currently runs the first robotics after-school program for an underserved Oakland school, Lockwood Elementary. She joined PIHE to work against the social inequalities contributing to unequal healthcare. Her goal for the semester is to push the Paul Farmer Resolution to increase U.S. spending on global health.

Enroll in " A Critical Understanding of Public Health" Decal to facilitate in following semesters

Organize Book club meetings by creating and presenting material on a public health topic of your interest

Educate new members on national organizations, mandatory legislation, and public health topics

Co-teach Berkeley's SPLASH course once a semester
Advocacy

Compose LTEs (Letters to the Editor) advocating for increased healthcare access, funding, and policies for local government

Coordinate and attend congressional meetings.

Conduct advocacy workshops for members and the Berkeley community

Aid general members in contacting their local representatives

Collaborate with national PIH advocacy teams.

Attend PIH national organization workshops
Marketing
Fundraising

Design fundraising campaigns for club-wide and national organization initiatives, like Rwanda's teaching hospital

Participate in Big Give, social media campaigns, tabling, and developing creative fundraising ideas

Maintain donation page.

Manage ASUC funding and track expenses

Attend PIH national fundraising workshops
Community Building

Plan and coordinate Night of Public Health (theme, guest speaker panel, reserve space, flyers, and invite students) each semester

Partner with other organizations on campus for community events (i.e., Sunstock, Suitcase Clinic)

Partner with other PIH organizations in California and nationally

Plan PIHE socials and community events

Recruit new club members each semester

Consistently develop social media content and engage with followers

Design infographics for general meetings/events and distribute them
